Second team of 15 young media makers had a meeting in Gödöllő, Hungary to get to know about The Stem Cell and Nuclear Transfer Cloning technologies workshop at BioTalentum.

Participants

Meeting in Gödöllő gathered people from the Netherlands, Slovenia, Czech Republic, UK, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, Italy and Latvia.

Program

Andras Dinnyes, PhD (founder of Biotalentum Ltd.) gave the overview about Biotalentum and it’s research activities and gave the background on Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer (Cloning).

Andras Dinnyes , PhD spoke about ethical issues and ideas for communication of genetic research to the wider public.

Melinda Pirity, PhD presented history of mise as a research object and mouse – as a genetically tractable model system of human disease, production of transgenic cell and animal models, gene construct preparation and targeting strategy, genetic alterations to mammalian cells.

Olga Ujhelly, PhD was speaking about Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) cells – as new tools for future regenerative medicine and drug testing.

Claudia Carstea, PhD spoke about fluorescence microscops, staining for cardiac and neuronal gene expression (with visualising genes) and pluripotency (stem cell markers).

Daniela Mezzena (Scientific Communication, EURAC) led editorial seminar and introduced Academia and Focus magazines to participants.

Csilla Nemes, PhD was responsible for Tissue Culture Laboratory. She showed embryonic stem cell lines and trained participants to maintenan and differentiate stem cells.

Anita Feher, PhD and Istvan Bock from Molecular Biology Laboratory were showing vector targeting, visualisation of DNA fragments on example of gel electrophoresis, cutting and re-joining of DNA fragments.

Next meeting:

The biggest group of 45 young media makers from 20 countries will meet in Bolzano/Bozen, Italy for three workshops at the same time: Humanities, Renewable Energy and Environment at EURAC. It will be the third meeting in the framework of My Science Program. Study visits will be held from 22nd till 27th February 2010.

Previous meeting:

First group of 15 young media makers met in the framework of  My Science Programme in Vienna, Austria to get to know about Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Meeting of participants from Poland, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Portugal, France, Lietuania and Estonia took place at the University of Vienna.
